Judy's return-to-work strategy judged a winner

It happened in the blink of an eye. While helping a patient shower, Judy* slipped and dislocated her shoulder. The injury had the potential to keep this dedicated Patient Services Attendant (PSA) off work for several months. But thankfully, the Catholic Aged Care facility Judy worked for swung into action to help her recover quickly and return to the job she loved.

Immediately after Judy was taken to hospital, the facility's Workers Comp Officer called her CCI Case Manager to find out how CCI could help. Within days they met with a Rehab Consultant to discuss the doctor's report and devised a strategy for Judy's recovery.

Working as a team, they planned for her to return to work within two weeks in a part-time role that was less demanding physically – as an assistant to the Activities Program Manager.

In the spirit of caring for people, not profits, CCI paid for taxis to make getting to and from work easier for Judy. CCI also covered her physiotherapy, which helped her strengthen her shoulder and regain her full range of movement.

Throughout her rehab, Judy regularly met with her employer and Rehab Consultant to discuss her progress and fine tune her program. Week-by-week they gradually increased her hours, and within 2 months Judy was back in her usual role as a PSA and once again working full-time.

Thanks to their proactive approach and a concerted team effort, what could have been an isolating period off work proved to be a time of accelerated healing, professional development and productivity.
