Prepare a Return to Work plan
Your Return to Work plan should:
- Describe what you will do to help your employees return to work
- Be based on the treating doctor’s recommendations and have his/her approval
- Be developed in consultation with your employees
If a treating doctor declares your employees able to work, but not in their usual job, you must also endeavour to find them suitable duties while they recover. They could involve:
- Elements of their usual job
- Reduced hours
- Different duties
- Training
When looking for suitable duties consider:
- What the doctor has said your employees are capable of doing
- The age, education and skills of your employees
- Where they live
- The type of duties that benefit your business, keeping in mind you must not give your employees demeaning tasks
